Health Services

We believe that access to health care is a right, not a privilege.

Easily accessible medical services are available on-site at New Horizons for shelter clients as well as all homeless adults. These services are provided by the Healthcare for the Homeless Project. There are two nurse practitioners available at New Horizons weekday mornings. There are also two physicians and one Social Worker available one day per week.

The mission of the Health Team is to guarantee comprehensive health care for all people who are homeless in Manchester, in a way that respects their dignity. The team believes that access to health care is a right, not a privilege.

Comprehensive services include primary medical care, addiction counseling, mental health care, dental care, eye care and specialty care to people regardless of their ability to pay. Nurse case managers guide patients through complicated health care systems, helping them obtain social services and housing. The team recognizes that housing is essential to health and recovery.

Mental Health Services

A high percentage of chronically homeless people have mental health issues. New Horizons and Angie's clients have access to mental health services through the Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester (The Center). A Center staff person is available to homeless clients at the shelter and can refer people to all levels of psychiatric care based on individual needs.
