NEW HAMPSHIRE STATE HOME SHOW COLLECTS OVER A TON OF FOOD
FOR NEW HORIZONS FOOD PANTRY SHELVES
MANCHESTER, NH – March 4, 2012 Home Builders & Remodelers Association of New
Hampshire (HBRANH) held their 45th annual NH State Home Show over this past
weekend and New Horizons for New Hampshire was their beneficiary of over a ton of food
collected from patrons attending the event.
Charlie Sherman, executive director of New Horizons said, “Many people will be served
by the food donated at this event. The Home Builders are quite a group to be associated with and
I am pleased to see so many patrons coming in with food to help to stock our food pantry shelves.
When children and their families come to New Horizons either for food distributed by our food
pantry or for hot dinner meals served in our soup kitchen, it helps to keep them [children and
their families] in their homes simply by saving enough money per month to pay rent.”
Dick Benson, the association’s home show committee chairman, made the initial contact with
New Horizons to start the initiative and, along with Kendall Buck, HBRANH executive vice
president, and all the association staff and volunteers, worked to make this effort successful.
“This year’s event was a great success. With nearly nine thousand, filling the aisles of three
huge exhibit halls with over 350 booths highlighting all aspects of new, renovation and
upgrading products and projects for your home, yard, living and play spaces. We feel this event
surpassed our attendance records,” said Buck.
The best of the best of New Hampshire contractors and products were displayed.
HBRANH president, Bruce Sullivan, stated, “The success of this show demonstrates that the
residential building industry is rebounding after some difficult years. More exhibitors, more
products, and more attendees just reinforces why Governor John Lynch recently issued a
proclamation declaring that March as HOME OWNERSHIP MONTH in New Hampshire.”
In issuing the proclamation, Governor Lynch stated that,“The health of New Hampshire’s
economy is positively impacted by having a strong and vibrant housing and development
industry.”

MANCHESTER, NH – Thursday, January 12, 2012
Manchester’s Project Homeless Connect was held on January 12, 2012. The event host was St. Joseph Cathedral. Manchester Continuum of Care Community Awareness Committee assisted in planning and implementing this day of service.Throughout the day 150 homeless individuals were able to seek help from 10 different service providers. Hundreds of warm coats, boots, hats and living essentials were given out. Volunteers escorted individuals through the maze of services and items to ensure everyone received what was needed. Guests enjoyed a hot lunch and service providers were able to work together on difficult cases to achieve better outcomes for guests.
Governor John Lynch stopped by to witness first hand the wonderful work being done by this group.

Case management is a unique service provided at New Horizons where homeless individuals meet one on one with a case manager to identify a goal plan to once again achieve self sufficiency. Case managers connect homeless people to housing, healthcare, employment, mental health, shelters and other targeted services. We know case management is working, while the number of individuals coming to New Horizons is on the rise, their length of stay is decreasing.
New Horizons for New Hampshire is a leading advocate for the hungry and homeless, with 60% coming from Manchester and 40% coming from the State of New Hampshire. New Horizons also operates Angie's Shelter for Women.
